The announcements are great, sessions informative, and of course the parties are stellar (sooo many evening events this year).<br /><br />The keynotes are always fun, and the stories of Coke or Johnson & Johnson discovering the agility and capabilities of AWS are always interesting and informative, but to be honest are starting to sound the same. Great stories, great and bigger companies involved but still it's still the "slow, expensive and lumbering to fast, easy and agile" trope. I know AWS is still wooing the Enterprise, trying to convince them "The New Normal" is all in the cloud and the stories these giants tell make the point to The Enterprise guy, but here's hoping for something a little bizarre next year. Looking forward to<i>"Lambda:how we turned our compute needs into something out of Star Trek."</i><br /><br />Not that there weren't signs of innovation, vision, even dreaming from the big guys, Phillips made an plea for real-time health care that, while not yet realized, calls for single visit pathology that can diagnose virtually any disease, up to and including cancer. It was an amazing vision (if not as exciting a speech as possible). The technical hurdles are high, but AWS and Phillips made the case they can overcome (including the real-time processing of 500GB of biopsy data)<br /><br />By far the funnest and perhaps most technically impress presentation was Major League Baseball's "<i>Statcast</i>" product. Using high resolution radar, multiple optical feeds, and AWS processing over 17PB of data a game, it tracks ball position metrics <a href="http://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/mlb-statscast-powered-by-aws/">20,000 times a second, and player p</a>osition 30 times a second to create this:<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/5XwEr56F7-4/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/5XwEr56F7-4&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/5XwEr56F7-4&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br /><br />Real time monitoring and reporting of not only what happened, but what could have happened. I'm not a big lover of baseball, but dang, that is cool.<br /><br /><br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sj_yBnCnrOM/VGjOEDUZttI/AAAAAAAADLA/bWk5ldMW2AE/s1600/IMG_4868.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sj_yBnCnrOM/VGjOEDUZttI/AAAAAAAADLA/bWk5ldMW2AE/s1600/IMG_4868.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">mmm Fresh Sushi powered by AWS</td></tr></tbody></table>My favorite slide of the entire conference presented perhaps the most off the wall use for AWS yet. Keeping the sushi in a conveyor belt sushi joint in Japan fresh.. AWS, keeping my food edible since 2014. That's innovation I can really get behind.<br /><br /><br /><br /></div>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-42707590759578292122014-11-15T07:59:00.001-08:002014-11-15T07:59:20.203-08:00Computer Scientists Say Copyright on APIs Will Stifle Innovation | CIO<a href="http://www.cio.com/article/2845342/intellectual-property/computer-scientists-say-copyright-on-apis-will-stifle-innovation.html#twitter">Computer Scientists Say Copyright on APIs Will Stifle Innovation | CIO</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-33500278448659552222014-11-15T07:52:00.001-08:002014-11-15T07:52:08.790-08:00Avnet Discover<a href="http://www.avnetcloudready.com/act/">Avnet Discover</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-74403536336720132052014-11-15T07:51:00.003-08:002014-11-15T07:51:39.135-08:00Amazon Web Services (AWS) news and technology information – SearchAWS.com<a href="http://searchaws.techtarget.com/">Amazon Web Services (AWS) news and technology information – SearchAWS.com</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-78262339381164667852014-11-15T07:51:00.001-08:002014-11-15T07:51:13.861-08:00Does AWS CloudFront work with static and dynamic content?<a href="http://searchaws.techtarget.com/answer/Does-AWS-CloudFront-work-with-static-and-dynamic-content">Does AWS CloudFront work with static and dynamic content?</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-73961024634832577672014-05-09T09:21:00.001-07:002014-05-09T09:21:18.108-07:00IBM claims it's cloud revenue front-runner, but is it cloud washing?<a href="http://searchcloudcomputing.techtarget.com/podcast/IBM-claims-its-cloud-revenue-front-runner-but-is-it-cloud-washing">IBM claims it's cloud revenue front-runner, but is it cloud washing?</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br />Ok, I think he's just trying to make Cloud Washing a buzz word but I have to admit<br /><br /><br /><br />"<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Calibri, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">And if Amazon really is still on top, can these traditional IT providers ever get over that a bookseller was able to enter the market and beat them?"</span><br /><br /><br /><br />Gave me a chuckle<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a>Eric Hollerhttps://plus.google.com/106662476314901055198noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099649967140021089.post-72945048621302536892014-05-02T09:38:00.001-07:002014-05-02T09:38:19.996-07:00DirecTV up on AT&T rumor - May. 1, 2014<a href="http://money.cnn.com/2014/05/01/investing/att-directv/">DirecTV up on AT&T rumor - May. 1, 2014</a>: <br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pengoopmcjnbflcjbmoeodbmoflcgjlk" style="font-size: 13px;">'via Blog this'</a><br /><br /><br /><br />So very interesting move, AT&T has been struggling to get back to the converged vision they had in the 90s/2000s when the MCI books were so cooked AT&T changed paths.
